Our vision for the Ridge

Why this young neighbourhood on the ridge feels like its own place, and what we hope to build together, as neighbours and as one voice with the City.

The Ridge sits a little apart from the rest of South Courtenay, up on the rise, with trees at the edges and the mountains and ocean showing themselves on a clear day. It is a young neighbourhood, still finding its feet, with families, retirees, first-time owners and long-time Islanders all landing here within a few short years. That mix is the whole point. We get to decide, together, what kind of place this becomes.

This site exists to help with two things at once. The first is simple and human: getting to know the people who live a few doors down. Dog walks, morning strolls, bike rides, a coffee on someone’s porch, the small habits that turn a set of streets into a community. When neighbours know each other, everything else gets easier.

The second is a little more civic, but just as important. The Ridge is growing, and the decisions that shape it, roads and crossings, trails and parkland, sidewalks and lighting, are made at the City of Courtenay. One resident writing in is easy to overlook. A whole neighbourhood speaking with one clear, reasonable voice is much harder to ignore. When we show up together, we earn a real say in our own street, and a genuine sense of ownership over where we live.

None of this is about being against anyone. It is about being for the place: friendly, well-connected, safe to walk, proud of its trails and views, welcoming to whoever moves in next. If that sounds like the neighbourhood you want, you are already part of it. Come as you are, let’s shape this together.
